Art Show
Art shows at Eastercon have been running almost as long as the convention itself.
A mixture of professional and amateur artists will be showing work, either for sale, or to showcase their skills and ideas. The art show and auction provide our members with a chance to buy art, both prints and originals, much of which is unlikely to be available anywhere else.
Entering the Art Show
Please note: as of January 2010, the art show is now full.
There is an initial limit of 12 boards per artist.
There are a small number of 6ft display tables for 3D art, sculptures, etc. for items intended for the auction, and a few tables for selling arts and crafts direct to the public without going via the auction.
There is no charge for displaying in the art show but any work sold is subject to a 10% fee which goes to the convention to assist in defraying costs. The art show is being run by John Harold and Robbie Bourget.
If you wish to book space in the art show or have any questions, please contact the art show team via artshow@odyssey2010.org -- However, please note that, as of January 2010, there are no spaces left in the art show.
Opening Hours
The art show will be open from Friday afternoon until late on Sunday morning (though artists will probably be hanging work until late on Friday evening) with the auction being held on Sunday afternoon.
Auction
Bids for works may be placed on the sheet beside the piece in question. Any piece of art with a bid on goes to auction; if the paper bid is not overbid then that bidder gets it.
Anyone bidding on artwork is strongly advised to go to the auction to make sure they get the piece they want. Depending on how many pieces are bid on, some works without any bid may go to auction at the discretion of the organisers. Also, some works with only one bid (again at the organisers’ discretion) may not go to the auction and will automatically be won by the original bidder.
Art should be picked up and paid for in the art show room on Sunday afternoon/evening.
Friday Viewing
On Friday evening there will be a small opening soiree to give people a chance to look at the artwork in a convivial manner and meet some of the artists – although we hope you will understand when we say that you can’t bring your drinks into the art show room. We look forward to meeting people there and answering any questions you may have about the art on display or the ways in which the auction works.
Artist FAQ
You (or an associate) must bring the artwork to the convention on either the Thursday evening or Friday morning and arrange with the organisers so you can get access to the art boards and can hang up your artwork yourself.
Pegboard clips and hooks will be provided for hanging your art.
It's perfectly ok to put up an ad for your artwork or other supporting material alongside your art, as long as it fits on the art board
You will be responsible for hanging your own art, and for collecting any unsold art at the end of the Art Auction
We do not accept art that is mailed to us.
We do not accept art from non-members. However, the person displaying/selling the art does not have to be the original artist. You can sell the collection of items you've bought at previous art shows, or act as agent for a friend. You can mix artists on the same art board.
